This is my dream kitchen! We installed Ikea cabinets and cast the concrete countertops amongst the chaos of tearing down 2 walls and installing beams (so excuse all the mess in the photos).
These are the forms we made to pour the countertops upside down. We used melamine boards like some many other people suggested. You can find the directions all over the web now days. Basically, you set up base board and side rails all with the melamine boards. We used Cheng's concrete mix for countertops in Stone.

This is the form after we caulked all the seams and taped the top edge. We tried to follow all the instructions while also trying to save money.
ok so now you can see these are a little rough around the edges. We did several slurry coats also and no fancy edging stuff offered on the Cheng's and many other websites. However, it was a labor of love and these versus spending thousands on other products was what I needed. Its not a project for those who don't like getting dirty and sweating a lot. wink with sweat dropping from forehead!
