I can't help calling the crib's newly transformed self the Peek-a-boo bookcase. When my kids first saw their horse and ponies sitting on this ledge they hugged me and screamed "hooray our horses have a barn!" Hahahahahah if you only knew that's how I felt when I could leave you in that crib!
All of the wood was repurposed from our kids crib which they all used! Of course, over the years a few slats had been knocked out and some hardware needed replacing, but wow 3 kids!!
The wood is solid poplar boards that were originally white washed with a stain product by Miniwax. It was beautiful.
When I tightened the legs onto the top plate (see more about top plates in my post Reclaimed & Repurposed Box) two of them weren't straight. hmmmm
The trouble started when I tightened the top plate on the leg. You see….its not straight. Ok, I meant its not perfect!
No worries, I positioned the tightened leg and top plate on the bottom of the bookcase and marked its holes. Therefore when I tightened the legs they would line up with the other more perfect front legs.
